Water Polo Western Australia (“WPWA”), is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced and strategic leaders for voluntary (non-renumerated) Board-appointed Director positions.
As WPWA undertakes a whole-of-sport review alongside the development of a new Strategic Plan to support the Brisbane 2032 Olympic cycle, this is an unique opportunity to help shape the future of water polo across the State.
About Us
WPWA is the peak body of water polo in Western Australia, responsible for the development, promotion, and administration of water polo across the State. The organisation oversees competitions, participation initiatives, athlete development pathways, and the strategic growth of the sport.
About the Role
As a Board Director, you will provide strategic leadership and governance oversight to support the sustainable growth and success of the organisation. Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to the strategic direction of WPWA
- Ensuring strong governance, accountability, and financial stewardship
- Supporting long-term sustainability and growth of the sport
- Strengthening relationships with government, partners, and stakeholders
- Providing guidance and strategic support to the CEO
Skills & Experience
WPWA is seeking individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Financial acumen – finance, accounting, or financial strategy
- Governance & risk – board governance, compliance, or risk management
- Government & commercial – government relations, partnerships, or commercial strategy
We welcome candidates who bring independent perspectives, strong professional experience, and sound judgement at a Board level.

The candidate will ideally demonstrate:
- Strategic thinking and decision-making capability
- A commitment to strong governance and organisational development
- The ability to contribute constructively within a Board environment
- Professional experience aligned with the skills sought

Commitment
- Monthly Board meetings (with occasional additional sessions)
- Participation in Board committees as required
- Preparation and active contribution to discussions
